Basics of Video Production

Camcorder Techniques: Learn how to avoid the common mistakes made by most beginners. This lecture introduces you to button basics, shot composition and camera moves, and how to shoot for easier editing as well as some newbie traps to avoid.

Choosing and Using the Right Microphone: A video production is a video AND audio experience. In this lecture on microphones, you will go beyond the on-camera microphone and learn about pick-up patterns, wired and wireless microphones, balanced versus unbalanced, dynamics and noise, frequency response, adapters and more.

Editing Techniques: This lesson walks you through tools of the trade, including editing systems and techniques. You'll learn about pacing, edit rhythms, storyboards and timelines, continuity of motion, split editing, cuts, dissolves, wipes, compositing examples, layers, transitions and titling. Learn how to avoid common editing mistakes.

Lighting Techniques: Lighting is the #1 factor in determining image quality! Learn the important basics every videographer should know: light sources, controlling contrast, source size, reflectors and diffusers, improvisation, illuminating the subject, background lighting, defining shape and texture, real world lighting, outdoor versus indoor, umbrellas and gels, color temperature and more.
